Theatre Creators’ Reserve, 2011-2012.
We have received confirmation that we will be participating in the Ontario Arts Council Theatre Creators’ Reserve program this year. The deadline for submissions is December 1st, 2011. Follow the link above to get all of the details.
I am an actor and I am interested in working for Carousel Players.
Performing for young audiences is challenging and rewarding. Carousel Players hires adult professional actors who usually have had training at either a university, college or theatre school. Actors send us a photo and resume outlining their theatrical experience. Once a year we hold auditions and our Artistic Director selects a group of actors to work for us for the season. We usually hire new actors each year, although some years we re-hire actors who have worked for us in the past. It all depends on the artistic needs of our plays. The contracts range from 8 weeks to 12 weeks depending on the length of the tour.
I am a playwright and I would like to have my work considered for production.
Play development is important to us and we are interested in nurturing relationships with playwrights. We produce work that is age-specific and created expressly for young audiences. Most years we produce one or more new plays that have been in development for a minimum of eighteen to twenty-four months. We encourage playwrights to submit scripts or new play proposals to our Artistic Director.
I am a designer who would like to work for Carousel Players.
The touring nature of our work poses some interesting challenges for our designers. We are usually looking for ways to transform a space, like a school gym, into a theatrical space where our plays can have great impact on our audiences. We pride ourselves in working with skilled artists who can deliver on production value. Designing for a Theatre for Young Audiences tour does require some lateral thinking but it originates from the same creative place as any other design work. Please contact our Artistic Director if you are interested.
Does Carousel Players need stage managers?
We hire professional stage managers to work under the Canadian Theatre Agreement for all of our tours. The experience is quite unique for a stage manager, as you are usually being asked to be the ambassador for the company in the schools and venues that we visit. You also have to keep a show on track and to maintain a cohesive ensemble over the course of a longer run. So, yes, we need stage managers, but our needs will vary with the number of shows we are producing. If you are interested, please submit your resume to our Production Manager.
